Generate Product Awareness: A Video Project Breakdown

In this article, we show how Ostreon‘s video was created, as an example of making a video where generating product awareness is the goal. We’ll show the steps taken and decisions made along the way to reach this goal.

Client Brief

The client wanted to bring awareness to a specific cybersecurity issue that is often overlooked or considered too late. Namely, that of ensuring your loved ones have seamless access to your digital assets when you die. The goal is to create awareness that Ostreon Inheritance is a solution to this problem. A key benefit to highlight was the superior security of the solution.

The Script

Taking inspiration from the client’s French roots (‘Ostrea’ being the Latin word for oyster) our writer Claire landed on an ocean concept that illustrated assets as pearls; a traditional symbol for inheritance. As the context surrounding the product is sensitive, the language used to create awareness around the software needed to have undertones of empathy, trustworthiness, and sensitivity. We presented to the client and after some revisions, we were ready to proceed to the next step.

The Voiceover

Owing to the nature of the client’s product, they wanted a voiceover artist whose tone evoked a sense of trust and who sounded dynamic and compassionate. Tom Dheere was the perfect fit with the ideal cadence and tone. You can hear the recording in the final video further below.

Styling

We designed style frames in line with the script’s oyster and ocean concept. By leaning into this concept we hoped to attract attention and help the client’s goal of increasing awareness. The client was happy with the direction and we continued further. Here’s how the style frames looked:

Graphics & Sound

We continued to the next stage where we completed the full graphic storyboard, based on the above designs. After a few tweaks and minor alterations, we were good to go!

Animation

The animation process went smoothly, using mostly 2D with a sprinkle of 3D when animating the oyster in the final scene. To stick to the ocean theme, our sound designer chose tranquil background music, with ocean sound effects.

And this was the final product!

Conclusion

Creating awareness for a new product or concept, especially when clients don’t consider solutions in time, has challenges. This was a fun problem to work on! In each step of the video production process, we revisited the client’s goal, to spotlight an issue in asset inheritance and showcase Ostreon as the solution to this problem.
